Repairs 8
My AC is running but not cooling. What is it?
Most often low refrigerant, a dirty coil, or a failing capacitor. The $79 diagnostic pins it down. More on AC Repair
Do you repair all brands?
Yes: Lennox, Carrier, Trane, Goodman, Rheem, Bryant, and the rest. More on AC Repair
Do you offer same-day AC repair?
When the schedule allows, yes, and July fills up fast. Call early in the day. More on AC Repair
What should I check before calling?
Thermostat set to cool, air filter not clogged, breaker not tripped. Two minutes of checking sometimes saves you $79. More on AC Repair
Why is my furnace blowing cold air?
Often a flame sensor, ignitor, or a clogged filter causing overheat shutdowns. The diagnostic tells us which. More on Furnace Repair
How fast can you come for no-heat calls?
No-heat calls jump the queue in winter. Call 385-526-4111 rather than booking online for these. More on Furnace Repair
Do you work on older furnaces?
Yes, and we are honest when a unit is past the point where repairs make sense. More on Furnace Repair
Is a yearly furnace tune-up really needed?
Yes: it keeps the warranty valid on most brands, catches carbon monoxide risks, and cuts mid-winter breakdowns. It is included in the Comfort Club. More on Furnace Repair
A new furnace or AC 12
How long does installation take?
Most straight swaps are done in one day. More on AC Replacement
Why the $3,500 - $9,000 range?
Home size, ductwork condition, and efficiency tier. The free estimate turns the range into one exact number. More on AC Replacement
Is the estimate really free?
Yes, in-home replacement estimates are free and take about 45 minutes. More on AC Replacement
Do you handle permits and rebates?
We pull required permits, and we will flag any current Rocky Mountain Power rebates your chosen system qualifies for. (The federal 25C tax credit ended for systems installed after December 31, 2025.) More on AC Replacement
Can you replace a furnace in winter?
Yes, and we prioritize no-heat replacements. Most swaps take one day. More on Furnace Replacement
80% vs 95% efficiency, what does it mean?
It is the share of every gas dollar that becomes heat instead of going out the flue. The free estimate includes payback math for your actual usage. More on Furnace Replacement
Should I replace the AC at the same time?
If both are 12+ years old, a combined install saves real money on labor. We quote it both ways and you choose. More on Furnace Replacement
Is there a rebate for a high-efficiency furnace?
Yes. Enbridge Gas (ThermWise) offers a rebate of $300 for a 95% to 97.4% efficient furnace, and $350 for 97.5% or higher with an ECM blower. The request has to be submitted within six months of install, and we give you the model and efficiency details you need for it. Enbridge sets the amounts and can change them, so we confirm the current rebate on your estimate. More on Furnace Replacement
Cracked heat exchanger, is that real or a scare tactic?
It is real, it can leak carbon monoxide, but it is also the most abused line in HVAC sales. We show you the crack on camera or we do not say it. More on Furnace Replacement
Can you repair my furnace or AC in Salt Lake City?
No. In Salt Lake City and South Salt Lake we only do free estimates and installation of new systems. Repairs, tune-ups and diagnostic visits stay in our full-service area, from Herriman north to Murray. More on Salt Lake City
How long does an installation take?
Most straight swaps of a furnace or air conditioner are done in one day. Jobs that need new venting, a chimney liner or duct changes can take longer, and we tell you that on the estimate. More on Salt Lake City
What warranty comes with a new system?
Every installation comes with a 1-year labor warranty on our work, plus a 5-year manufacturer parts warranty. More on Salt Lake City
Comfort Club and tune-ups 7
Is this a contract?
No. The monthly plan is month to month and the annual plan renews once a year. Cancel either one anytime and you will not be charged again. More on Comfort Club
Can I get a refund?
Yes, within the first 30 days of an annual membership, as long as we have not been out for your first tune-up yet: we refund the full $199.90. After that, annual memberships are not refundable, but you keep every benefit until the end of the year you paid for and you will not be charged again. Monthly members are simply not charged again after they cancel. More on Comfort Club
Can my $95 tune-up count toward the Club?
Had your $95 tune-up? Join the annual plan during that visit and the $95 counts toward it. You pay $104.90 instead of $199.90 for the first year, that visit is your first Club tune-up, and one more is included. It renews at $199.90. Your tech sets it up with you on the day. Because your first tune-up is already done, the 30-day refund does not apply to this offer. More on Comfort Club
What is the difference between monthly and annual?
Same membership, same benefits. Monthly is $19.99 a month. Annual is $199.90 paid once a year, which is ten months for the price of twelve and saves you $39.98. More on Comfort Club
What is actually in a tune-up?
A multi-point inspection and service: coils, refrigerant charge, capacitors, ignition, flame sensor, heat exchanger and CO check, filter, thermostat calibration, and a written condition report. More on Comfort Club
I rent out a property, can I put it on the plan?
Yes, landlords love this: we coordinate directly with your tenant and send you the report. More on Comfort Club
Does membership transfer if I sell my home?
Yes, it can transfer to the new owner, which is a nice selling point. More on Comfort Club
Homes in your city 33
Herriman Are you really located in Herriman?
Yes. Mountain Star is based in Herriman. It is not a dispatch address for a company somewhere else. More on Herriman
Herriman How soon can you get to me in Herriman?
Usually within 1-2 days, and often sooner, because Herriman is home base. Comfort Club members get priority scheduling. More on Herriman
Herriman Why is my upstairs so much hotter than the main floor?
Heat rises, and a single system in a two-story home has to push cool air the farthest to reach the top floor. Dirty filters, closed or unbalanced dampers and too few return vents upstairs make it worse. We measure the airflow before suggesting anything bigger, like zoning or a second system. More on Herriman
Herriman My builder-grade AC is 15 years old and limping. Repair or replace?
At that age we quote both and show you the math. No pressure either way. More on Herriman
Riverton How long does it take you to get to Riverton?
It is roughly a 10-minute drive from our Herriman base to most of Riverton, and appointments are usually available within 1-2 days. More on Riverton
Riverton My furnace is the original one from the 1990s. Do I have to replace it?
Not automatically. Age alone is not a reason. We check the heat exchanger, venting and safety controls, tell you what the repair costs, and quote a replacement next to it so you can decide. More on Riverton
Riverton Can you still fix an air conditioner that uses R-22?
Often, yes. Many R-22 repairs are electrical or mechanical and need no refrigerant at all. If yours does need refrigerant, we tell you the cost first, because it is expensive now that R-22 is no longer produced. More on Riverton
Riverton Do you service all brands?
Yes: Lennox, Carrier, Trane, Goodman, Rheem, Bryant, and the rest. More on Riverton
South Jordan Do you cover Daybreak?
Yes. Daybreak is part of South Jordan and one of the closest areas to our Herriman base. Most visits are booked within 1-2 days. More on South Jordan
South Jordan Do you work on newer systems still under builder warranty?
Yes, we can diagnose and repair them. If a repair is still covered by a builder or manufacturer warranty, we will help you figure out which route makes sense before you pay out of pocket. More on South Jordan
South Jordan My newer furnace shows an error code and shuts off. What is going on?
On high-efficiency furnaces this is very often a blocked condensate drain or a pressure switch fault, which stops the furnace on purpose to keep it safe. It is usually a straightforward repair, diagnosed for the flat $79 service call. More on South Jordan
South Jordan Can a smaller townhome use a smaller system?
Often, yes. A load calculation tells us what your home actually needs, and an oversized system costs more, cycles on and off and wears out sooner. More on South Jordan
Bluffdale How close are you to Bluffdale?
Bluffdale borders Herriman, our home base. Visits are usually available within 1-2 days, and often sooner. More on Bluffdale
Bluffdale Do you handle older acreage properties, not just newer subdivisions?
Yes. We work on both: larger, older systems on acreage lots and newer builder-grade units in the subdivisions. More on Bluffdale
Bluffdale My house has two furnaces and two AC units. Can you service both?
Yes. We diagnose and quote each system separately, so you can fix or replace one at a time. For the Comfort Club on more than one system, call 385-526-4111 and we will set it up. More on Bluffdale
Bluffdale Why is one end of my house always colder than the other?
In larger homes the rooms farthest from the furnace sit at the end of the longest duct runs. Leaky or undersized ducts, closed dampers and missing return air are the usual causes, and they can often be fixed without new equipment. More on Bluffdale
West Jordan How far are you from West Jordan?
West Jordan is a short drive north of our Herriman base, with the southern and western parts of the city closest. Visits are usually available within 1-2 days. More on West Jordan
West Jordan Why is the bottom level of my split-level so cold in winter?
Warm air rises to the upper levels, and lower levels often have fewer supply vents and weak return air. Adjusting dampers, clearing returns and checking the blower speed fixes a lot of it before anyone talks about new equipment. More on West Jordan
West Jordan Should I replace the ductwork when I replace my furnace?
Not always. Many duct systems only need sealing or a better return. We inspect them on the free estimate and tell you plainly whether they will hold back a new furnace. More on West Jordan
Kearns How far are you from Kearns?
Kearns is a short drive north of our Herriman base, usually 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic. Visits are usually available within 1-2 days. More on Kearns
Kearns Can you replace my swamp cooler with central air?
Yes, as a new air conditioner installation. On a free in-home estimate we check whether your existing furnace ducts and return air can carry central air, what electrical work it needs, and give you three options with exact pricing. More on Kearns
Kearns My AC coil keeps freezing up. Why?
Usually not enough air moving across it: a clogged filter, a weak blower, or ducts too small for the AC. Low refrigerant can do it too. We find which one for the flat $79 service call. More on Kearns
Kearns Is it safe to keep running a furnace that is 30 or 40 years old?
It can be, if the heat exchanger, venting and safety controls check out. Age makes those checks more important, not optional. Keep working carbon monoxide alarms in the home whatever the furnace's age. More on Kearns
Taylorsville How far are you from Taylorsville?
Usually 15 to 25 minutes north of our Herriman base, depending on where in Taylorsville you are and on traffic. Visits are usually available within 1-2 days. More on Taylorsville
Taylorsville I own a rental. Can you work with my tenant directly?
Yes. We schedule access with your tenant, do the work you approve, and send you the details. Comfort Club landlords get the tune-up reports too. More on Taylorsville
Taylorsville Can you replace the AC for a condo or townhome?
Yes. Tell us about your HOA's rules on condenser placement and noise when you book, and we will plan the install and the quote around them. More on Taylorsville
West Valley City How far are you from West Valley City?
Most of West Valley City is 20 to 25 minutes north of our Herriman base, depending on traffic. Visits are usually available within 1-2 days. More on West Valley City
West Valley City My home has a swamp cooler. Is central air worth it?
Swamp coolers work well in Utah's dry heat and cost little to run, but they struggle on humid summer days, need seasonal startup and shutdown, and bring in outside air during inversions and wildfire smoke. Central air uses your furnace ducts and filter. We price it on a free estimate so you can compare. More on West Valley City
West Valley City Do you cover both the Granger and Hunter sides of the city?
Yes, all of West Valley City: 84119, 84120 and 84128. More on West Valley City
Murray How far are you from Murray?
Murray is about 20 to 25 minutes north of our Herriman base, depending on traffic. Visits are usually available within 1-2 days. More on Murray
Murray Is Murray full service, or installs only like Salt Lake City?
Full service. In Murray we do repairs, tune-ups, diagnostic visits and replacements. Salt Lake City and South Salt Lake are the areas where we only do free estimates and new installs. More on Murray
Murray My furnace and water heater share a chimney. Does that matter if I replace the furnace?
It can. A high-efficiency furnace vents through its own plastic pipe, which leaves the water heater alone in a chimney sized for two. That can stop it venting properly, so the chimney may need a liner. We check this on every replacement estimate and include it in the price. More on Murray
Murray My older home has weak airflow upstairs. Can that be fixed?
Often, yes. Older homes commonly have small or too few return vents and duct runs that were extended over the years. We measure the airflow and tell you what would actually help before quoting any equipment. More on Murray
